Product Description
The Base is an "free project management system" which enables e.g. open source projects to use an own infrastructure instead of an host(like sourceforge, tigris etc.), but without the high amount of administrative effort typically seen in such self-managed infrastructures (like e.g. trac/svn combination).
A core tool is 'trac', a well known open-source project-management tool.
It's main componets are: Issuetracking System, Content Management System (Wiki), Version Control Repository.
It reduces the workload of setting up an controlled Project Infrastructure significantly.
It does so by integrating open-source systems, but including tasks like server setup, defining project processes (which can be altered later) and other surrounding parameters which can cost a team days and weeks to setup.

Compatibility
- no risk: base uses the original source-code bases, which is extended by plugins and other mechanisms which do not alter the original code.
- at any time, base can be deactivated, having again the original code active, with the existent data valid.
